Flash from the ground up

Advanced Techniques

3-D

So your interested in incorporating 3-D elements into your animation?

Hmmm. First let me start by saying that Flash is a 2-D application, any 3-D elements which you may have seen floating around the Web were originally created in a separate application, then imported into Flash as 2-D elements, then painstakingly animated using the old "frame-by-frame" technique.

There are a number of ways to go about generating 3-D elements for use in your animation - but before going into great detail on how to do this, I recommend that you first gain a thorough understanding of basic flash concepts, once you have mastered the basics, since achieving 3-D in Flash is really a combination of a number of basic Flash functions which simulte the apperence of #-d elements.

Check out Chapter 11: Advanced Techniques to learn how to generate 3-D elements in Flash.
